Urban Jungle is an abstract earth-toned canvas designed to sit behind indoor plants and layered interiors, painted in tones that move across the surface the way growth moves through a landscape rather than staying contained by it. There was no plan behind it. Kudzi started the canvas and let the painting create itself, letting go of control, rules and structure as he worked, and following the flow of it somewhere new rather than deciding in advance where it would end up.
Meaning & Inspiration
Urban Jungle reflects a process of letting go that Kudzi sees as true in life as much as in painting. As he puts it, in the business of life the world can appear seemingly unconnected, yet colour and texture still let us join the things we build with the natural world around them. This piece asks whoever lives with it to put themselves out there and let life's flow carry them somewhere new, the same way the painting itself came together.
