Veil of the Roar is about identity, about breaking out of what stays hidden and into who you really are. Kudzi painted the lion so that much of its face dissolves into the same dark, fractured strokes as the landscape around it, with only the roar itself breaking clear and lit against the rest.

Meaning & Inspiration

Veil of the Roar carries a simple truth: limiting beliefs hide you from the world, and the roar is what breaks you through them. The piece sits between Kudzi's abstract work and his wildlife pieces, carrying his Zimbabwean heritage and his love for the wildlife and the vast landscapes he grew up around.
